Faith in life
Affirm what you want
It has been said that we are what we eat. It would be truer to say, we are what we think. For, our minds express and influence what we are, far more than our bodies do. Our thoughts influence our health to a great extent.
An affirmation is a statement of truth which one aspires to absorb in his/her life. Words, which are crystallised thoughts, have immeasurable power, especially when we speak them with conviction. The mere thought of fatigue is enough to sap our energy. The words, “I’m exhausted”, gives definition, and adds power to the thought itself. The difficulty is that our habits are buried deep in the subconscious.
Thus, even when we resolve to change them, we find ourselves being drawn back repeatedly, and quite against our conscious will. Affirmations, on the other hand, when repeated with deep concentration, leave an imprint on the subconscious, over which most of us have little conscious control.
Affirmations should be repeated in such a way, so as to lift the consciousness towards super consciousness. This can be accomplished if we repeat the affirmations with deep concentration at the seat of divine awareness in the body, the Christ centre, which is a point midway between your brows.
Steps to practise affirmations
• Repeat the affirmation loudly at first, to command the full attention of your conscious mind.
• Then, repeat it quietly to absorb the meaning of the words.
• Now, whisper it to carry its meaning to the subconscious.
• Repeat it again, silently, to deepen your absorption of the affirmation at the subconscious level.
• Lastly, with rising aspiration, repeat it at the spiritual eye, or the point between the eyebrows.
• At every level, repeat affirmation several times, absorbing its meaning. Through this, you can strengthen and, later, spiritualise your awareness of any quality you want to develop.
